Local Taxi Drivers and Owners Assoc prepare memorandum of demands for CM


GANGTOK, 02 Dec: The Central Joint Action Committee of Local Taxi Drivers and Owners Association has decided to submit a nine-point memorandum to the Chief Minister soon through the Chairman, All Sikkim Truck and Taxi Jeep Owner’s cum Drivers Joint Action Committee, TT Bhutia.

The memorandum details the various decisions taken unanimously in the recently held general meeting of the CJAC on 30 November.
The memorandum raises a number of demands to the state government which are: to enhance the local taxi fare in Gangtok; relaxation of High Security Registration Plate of the vehicle and reduce the rate equivalent to other states of India; to stop the issue of permits of commercial vehicles in-and-around Gangtok; construction of new taxi stands in-and-around Gangtok with proper parking facilities; to reduce parking fee and not enhance it every year; not to increase the number ofcommercial vehicles under Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation; to issue any kind of new order/s concerning lcoal taxis only after proper meeting with the members of CJAC; timely maintenance of all link roads in-and-around Gangtok and not to enforce HSRP during the time of renewal of documents of taxi vehicles.
The CJAC has requested the government to fulfill their demands for smooth running of taxis in Gangtok and also for the benefit of tourists and the general public.
