GANGTOK, 07 July: MG Kiran, who retired as Principal
Secretary Finance, Revenue and Expenditure on 30 June, has been appointed the
new chairperson of Teesta Urja Ltd [in which the State Government has 26%
stake], taking over from former Finance Secretary, KN Bhutia who served on the
post from October 2011 to July 2014. Teesta Urja, it may be recalled, is
developing the 1200 MW Teesta Stage III hydel project at Chungthang in North
Sikkim.
The State Government notified the new appointment on
03 July, last week.
Mr. Bhutia spent an eventful two and half years on the
post, helping the project get over the setback dealt by the September 2011
Earthquake and the logistic and financial problems that followed. The project
is now nearly 90% complete and is expected to get commissioned next year.
