GANGTOK, 06 July: Two-month long bamboo craft training for fourteen differently abled beneficiaries started from 30 June at Sheltered Workshop, Jorethang.
The training is being conducted under Capacity Building Programme of Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP) by State Level Nodal Agency, Forest, Environment and Wildlife Management Departmentin co-ordination with Social Justice, Emp. & Welfare Department, informs a press release.
The inaugural programme was attended by Social Welfare Officer (S/W), Nakul Rawat and Programmer (Livelihood), SLNA, Rachit Dewan. The training is being conducted by Master Trainer, KB Thapa and Assistant Trainer, Ram Pradhan.
Mr Rawat addressing the beneficiaries urged them to take maximum benefit from the opportunity provided by the Department. He added that the beneficiaries were no different from other people and that they have talent in them. He mentioned that the Government is committed to make the differently abled citizens self-reliant and such capacity building training would go a long way in achieving the objective.
Mr Dewan briefed the beneficiaries on the different capacity building programmes and livelihood activities being taken up under IWMP for the benefit of rural people. He spoke about some success stories achieved under IWMP to motivate the differently abled beneficiaries falling under different project areas.
He mentioned that due to successful co-ordination of the two Departments such beneficial training is being conducted and it wouldn’t have been possible without the initiative of PCCF-cum-MS, SLNA, Dr. Anil Mainra, and Joint Secretary, Social Welfare, KB Pradhan.
