GANGTOK, 09 Dec: A meeting was held between the Transport Department represented by its Minister, TT Bhutia, Secretary, Tsegyal Tashi, officials of the Department and representatives of the Joint Action Committee [JAC] of various drivers associations of the capital yesterday to discuss issues and problems faced by the drivers and also to discuss the high prices of High Security Registration Plates [HSRP] and hike in taxi fares.
Speaking to NOW! today, the Secretary informed that this was a very informal meeting between the Transport Minister, the Transport officials and representatives of JAC to learn more about the issues and problems faced by the drivers.
“We just met to talk on certain issues regarding HSRP regulation and taxi fare hike demanded by the drivers,” the Secretary said.
“We have listened to their demands and other issues raised by them and have also advised them to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister and have further assured them that the department will look into the matter very soon,” he added.
