Carpeting of Sang-Dipu Dara road finally begins

DEPARTMENTAL SUPPLIES STILL SHORT THOUGH
GANGTOK, 08 Dec: The carpeting work along the Sang-Dipu Dara road which was sanctioned in July 2009 has finally started, providing relief to the locals here. The work had not begun till now due to the delay in the supply of bitumen by the PWD.

The carpeting work undertaken by the contractor, Sanjay Prasad is being executed through the process of ‘hot mix plant’ in order to give a strong structure to the road, it is learnt.
However, as the department has supplied just 410 drums of bitumen out of the required 1,146 drums, locals fear that they may have to endure bad roads for another two years or so. The stretch covers a distance of nearly 12 km wherein 4km have already been treated with bitumen starting from the bazaar. [from NANDU DUTRAJ]
