GOLAY MOTORCADE MEETS BARRICADE AT ASSAM-LINGZEY ‘ZERO’, MOVES THROUGH AFTER MINOR CONFRONTATION; S.A.P. DESPATCHED
GANGTOK, 13 Dec: Continuing his East Sikkim tour “on the people’s request”, Upper Burtuk MLA, PS Tamang, toured different places of Khamdong-Singtam, West Pendam and Namcheybong constituencies on Tuesday, inform a press release issued by Jacob Khaling.
Mr. Tamang interacted with the people of Singtam, Central Pendam, Rangpo-Sawney, Assam Lingzey and its surrounding areas falling under these three constituencies.
While sharing their grievances, the local people expressed that the Teesta Stage V Power Project has left them landless and put their future in danger, the release informs. Mr. Tamang has taken note of all the problems and grievances expressed by the people during the tour, the release adds.
Speaking to NOW! over the phone late this evening, Mr. Khaling informed that Mr. Tamang’s motorcade, on its way to Khola Ghari in Assam Lingzey, was obstructed by a barricade of vehicles and stones at Assam-Lingzey ‘Zero’.
This ‘barricade’, Mr. Khaling said, was removed by Mr. Tamang’s supporters travelling in the motorcade. While some youth from the “other side” ‘attacked’ Mr. Tamang’s motorcade, they dispersed soon after and no serious confrontation transpired, Mr. Khaling informs. A few vehicles in the motorcade were damaged though, he adds.
While adding that a telephonic intimation was made to the police, Mr. Khaling adds that a detachment of police personnel arrived shortly after at the spot. Police sources further inform that one company of Sikkim Armed Police led by senior officials was also deployed from Gangtok in response.
