Milch cows distributed in West Sikkim


GANGTOK, 11 Dec: The Animal Husbandry Livestock and Veterinary Department, West District, on on 08 Dec distributed milching cows to beneficiaries selected from Maneybong-Dentam and Yuksom-Tashiding constituencies at a special function organized at the Kyongsa Veterinary Complex. The beneficiaries were selected on need and capacity basis, informs an official press release.

Joint Director, Dr. DS Tiwari spoke on the care of milching cows and ways to increase milk productivity. He explained the cattle insurance policy, stressed on animal hygiene and sanitation and also precautionary measures to be taken concerning animal health.
One of the beneficiaries, Laxmi Sharma, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the government for providing such means of generating income, the release mentions.
Thingling panchayat, Sonam Wangdi Bhuita and Mongmo panchayat, Loknath Sharma extended their gratitude towards the Chief Minister for his efforts towards uplifting the poor.
Secretary, DP Sharma stressed the need for maintaining proper records of feedback received from the beneficiaries and also to keep a track on the progress. He also directed the field veterinarian to prepare reports on a regular basis, the release mentions.
The chief guest, MLA, Yangthang, PL Subba said that such programmes to enhance livelihood and to make the people self reliant should be encouraged. He informed about the department’s efforts in increasing production of organic manure in Sikkim, the release adds.
The welcome address was placed by Dr. SP Bhutia and programme conducted by VO, Gyalshing, Dr. Kishore Thapa.
