VENUES TO BE EARMARKED FOR POLITICAL MEETINGS AND OTHER PUBLIC EVENTS
NAMCHI, 09 Dec: Following guidelines issued by the State government, the South District Administration convened a meeting at the DAC conference hall here on regulations for the use of government land as venues for different events.
Not allowing public meetings by political parties and common functions like picnic, marriage ceremony on government land were discussed at the meeting. It was stated that keeping the larger public interest in mind, property identification of land must be done to regulate the utilization of venues on government land.
During the meeting SP (South) Manoj Tiwari spoke on drug abuse and suggested winding up parties before 10 PM, adding that accidents often occur due to alcohol consumption and late night driving which should be avoided.
Strict instructions to drivers to avoid alcohol consumption must be circulated up to the Gram Panchayat level for the safety of human life and society, he suggested. He further said that sanitation and cleanliness should be taken care of and the departments of Forest, RMDD and UD&HD should ensure pollution control and cleanliness of the area.
SIMFED chairman, Girish C Rai, expressed his dissatisfaction over the absence of representatives from vital government organizations from the meeting and suggested inviting representatives from the Excise, UD&HD, Forest, Motor Vehicles as well in the meeting.
The Namchi Municipal Council Chairman, Buddha Tamang, vice-chairman, NH Ansari, representatives from SDF party and other officials also addressed the meeting.
The DC South, AK Singh, has called a follow-up meeting for 13 Dec to discuss and identify a venue to hold public meetings by political parties and common functions. The DC has requested all individuals, NGOs, social workers, political parties and government officials to attend the meeting.
The meeting was conducted by SDM Namchi, Raj Kumar Yadav and vote of thanks was proposed by SDM (HQ), Purna B. Yonzon.
