Handloom Development Scheme launched in Central Pendam


GANGTOK, 11 Dec: A two-month long Integrated Handloom Development Scheme organized by the Sikkim Handicrafts and Handloom Development Corporation was inaugurated at Chewribotey in Central Pendam, East Sikkim by the Ward Panchayat, Lachi Maya Chettri on 10 Dec.

The training is being sponsored by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, informs an official press release.
Deputy Director, DHH, CT Lepcha stressed on the need of imparting training on weaving and urged the gathering to avail the opportunity provided by the department.  Assistant Director, SN Bhutia informed about the registration under Health Insurance and Life Insurance Schemes of the weavers being provided by the Ministry of Textiles. He also informed that such schemes are especially designed for weavers and artisans of the state, the release mentions.
The chief guest called upon the gathering to avail the facilities and opportunities so far extended by the department and urged the local women to make utmost utilization of the training and learn with diligence and hard work.
The function presided over by Tularam Sharma also had participation from the local gentry, trainees and NGOs. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by TR Sharma, the release adds.
