CM holds up sports promotion as priority sector

NAMCHI, 30 June: Chief Minister Pawan Chamling has announced that sports will be a priority-sector for the government in the 12th Five Year Plan. He announced that ten-times more sports activities will be taken up to engage the youth and children in this healthy option.
He was sharing this with the Heads of Departments and district officials today during a review meeting of his South district tour held at Namchi indoor stadium today.
The CM informed that inter-school football tournaments at the constituency level will be organized and all efforts made to explore budding talent from all corners of the State and provide with a good platform to test their mettle.

He also announced playgrounds will be constructed at every Ward Panchayat and sports competitions in different disciplines held in the Gram Panchayat Unit level to provide a platform for rural talent to get recognised.
He also announced that each district will have a Sports Hostel and further informed exclusive sports academies will be established in the State for football, archery, taekwondo etc.
The CM also mentioned that priority will be given to those sports which are suitable for the state for its development.
He also informed that stadiums will be established in Namchi, Mangan, Geyzing and Soreng and sports pavilions made across the state.
The CM also directed the Sports and Youth Affairs Secretary to carry out the research and survey immediately and submit the proposal to the government.
