2 booked under SADA

GANGTOK, 26 June: Two girls were arrested in possession of contraband substances here yesterday.
Acting on a tip-off, the Sadar Police raided the rented accommodation of Binita Tamang [21] and her 16 year old friend, who were allegedly looking for prospective buyers at Manbir Colony, Burtuk in East Sikkim at 7.30 a.m. in the morning.
The police recovered 69 capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon [SP], 50 Nitrosun-10 [N-10] tablets, four empty Spasmo Proxyvon boxes, 14 empty Spasmo Proxyvon capsules and one empty bottle of Corex and Recodex cough syrup each from them.

A case under Sikkim Anti-Drugs Act [SADA] has been registered against the duo.
According to information furnished by Tshering Sherpa, Police Inspector, Sadar PS a total of 52 cases were registered in the Sadar PS under SADA in the years 2009 and 2010. A total number of 2,073 N-10 tablets and 21,737 SP capsules were seized, along with 679 bottles of banned cough syrup. While 70 men were arrested, the number of females was 7 with 46 cases being chargesheeted.
This year, till 25 June, twenty four cases have been registered, with 779 N-10 tablets, 2,652 SP capsules and 46 bottles being seized by the police. Thirty two males and three females were arrested with 23 cases already being chargesheeted, he informed.
