MANGAN, 27 June: Villagers whose lands have been acquired for the construction of the PMGSY road here at Rabi-Chongdong in North Sikkim have complained against non-payment of the compensation due to them.
The construction of a 3 km road, linking Namok to Robi Chongthong under Namok-Sweyam GPU of Dzongu constituency, was started in the year 2009 and is now 90% complete, but the villagers are yet to receive their compensation, it is being claimed. A total of 45 houses have provided the land for the said PMGSY road.
Apart from this, families which suffered damages to their houses due to the said construction also remain neglected and some of them have shifted to temporary locations by themselves.
The affected people had submitted an estimate of compensation a year earlier back but no intimation has been forwarded by the Department as yet, it is alleged.
The villagers have appealed to the government to release the compensation due to them as soon as possible.
