Forest officers retaining govt employees for domestic chores risk suspension

GANGTOK, 29 June: Forest Department officers, who divert the services of Forest Guards and MR employees for personal work at their residences, now do so at the risk of ‘immediate suspension’.
This was one of the directions of the letter issued earlier this month by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest [Planning & Administration], Department of Forests Environment and Wildlife Management addressed to all Divisional Forest Officers informing that the Department has learned of such misconduct from “some reliable sources”.

The letter carrying the subject “Engagement of Forest Guards on personal works” reads, “If it is so, this is very much unfortunate act from the part of the concerned forest officers.”
The letter states that as per the allegation some officers are utilizing FG and MR Employees for their personal benefits “instead of assigning them official duty for protection of forest & wildlife and nursery raising.”
The letter adds, “All the DFOs and the forest officers in the Districts as well as in the Headquarter, are hereby warned that no officer is authorized to misuse the services of the Forest Guards and MR labourers.”
“If the information is true and gets proven in the near future, stringent disciplinary action shall be initiated against the officer who is misusing the service of the Forest Guards and the MR labourers,” the letter said.
The letter also warns that the disciplinary action may amount to immediate suspension of the officer and initiation of enquiry against him/her.
