GANGTOK, 26 June: The Sikkim State Body Building Association took out a rally, a first for the organisation, through the capital today with the aim of not just spreading awareness against drug abuse but also to encourage the youth to stay fit and healthy. 26 June is observed around the world as the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
More than 100 body builders and gym enthusiasts joined the rally. Representation came from all age groups, from young aspiring body builders to veterans of the field.
Perhaps as an enticement of what staying ‘clean’ and remaining fit could achieve, the rally had body-builders swagger through the streets in white vests and blue jeans. All of them also sported Red Ribbons endorsing their support for efforts to increase awareness on HIV/ AIDS.
The rally began at 11 a.m. from the Bansilal Petrol Pump, moved via Titanic Park through Sadar Thana to Zero point, STNM Hospital and back to Bansilal Petrol Pump. The route was covered in approximately one hour and even a heavy downpour did not deter the enthusiasm of the participants.
SSBBA office bearers also joined the procession along with former Mr. Sikkim’s Pema Dorjee Bhutia and Suresh Chettri, representatives from various gyms, Gym owners and Pharmaceutical companies.
