Former Sangha MLA alleges “sub-standard work” at Sang monastery construction

GANGTOK, 28 June: Former Sangha MLA and vice-president Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee, Acharya Tshering Lama, has raised questions about the quality of work in the construction of a monastery at Sang Biang in Sang, East Sikkim.
In a press communiqué issued today, he states, “Following many popular representations, a monastery has been built at Sang Biang in Sang, East Sikkim. However, when I visited the monastery on 01 June following requests from the local people to assess the standard of construction and other aspects of the structure, I was shocked to see the quality of work being maintained”.

He mentions that residents had also approached the then area MLA, DT Lepcha as well as the current incumbent Menlom Lepcha regarding the matter. The quality of work is sub-standard both in terms of exterior as well as interior construction, he alleges.
The quality of work with regard to the debri paintings, etc. is “visibly horrible” and the fact that it requires repair after just a year and a half of completion is “surprising”, he adds.
“Under the circumstances, I call upon the Government to immediately address this most genuine concern of the local devotees before it is too late,” the release conveys, adding that he had kept quiet on the issue till now hoping that the concerned individuals/ authorities would respond to the numerous public grievances and complaints.
