NAMCHI, 27 June: Marking the occasion of “Ten Minutes to Earth 2011”, a plantation programme was organized by Territorial Division of Forest Department at Kamrang South Sikkim.
Addressing the occasion, chief guest MLA Namchi Singithang, Binod Rai, said that South District falls under a dry zone with the existing water sources drying up and so, such areas should be covered by the plantation programme which can rejuvenate water sources.
Such plantation will not only restore dried water sources but also protect the area from landslides along with enhancing the natural beauty of the area. The MLA urged all villagers to plant saplings in their barren land and make the vision of Chief Minister Dr. Pawan Chamling come to life. He also urged the villagers and the Forest department to ensure post-plantation care for the saplings.
On the occasion more than 400 saplings of different species were planted. The programme also attended by VC NMC, NH Ansari, Upa Adakshya (S), Himal Tamang, DC(S), AK Singh, DFO (T), Molisa Dash, SDM Namchi, Annapurna Alley, SDM (HQ), Yangchen D Tamang, RO(T), Tshetan Lepcha, PI Namchi, CB Basnett, BOs, staff and the villagers.
