GANGTOK, 30 Apr: Sikkim-Nepal Literary, Arts and Music Society
and Sahitya Kala Mandir, Kathmandu, have decided to confer this year’s Saraswati
Samman to noted literary figure of Sikkim, Pempa Tamang who is also the
president of the Sikkim Akademi.
A press release informs that the Society was formed on 22
November last year and the decision to confer the award to Mr Tamang was taken
jointly by the Society and the Sahitya Kala Mandir recently.
The award will be conferred on 10 May at Kathmandu. The award
consists of Rs 51,000 [NC], a citation and token. Mr. Tamang is the first
person from Sikkim to receive the award.
