GANGTOK, 29 Apr: Sikkim’s women’s team has made a good start at the 20th Senior Women’s National Football Championship 2014 being held at Dibrugarh, Assam which started on 27 April. Playing the first match of the championship today, Sikkim edged past the strong team from West Bengal 1-0.
Sikkim’s midfielder Nim Doma Bhutia scored the winning and only goal of the match in the 6th minute of the match itself. Next, Sikkim will take on Bihar in its second match on 01 May.
Speaking over the phone from Guwahati, the team manager, Palden Bhutia said that every member of the team played an outstanding game. “Defeating a team like West Bengal is a good start for the state team”, he said. He further added that the team is now looking forward to register its second victory against Bihar.
In the preliminary round of the championship, Sikkim has been placed in cluster “C” along with Delhi, Bihar, Tripura, Kerala and West Bengal.
