GANGTOK, 02 May: A four-member team from West and South Sikkim visited Government College Rhenock on 01 May 2014. The team was led by Marathon Man, Amar Subba along with Binay Gazmer, Bhuwani Gurung and Sujeet Gurung.
A press release informs that an awareness programme on long distance running as a career was organized by the National Service Scheme [NSS] unit of the college where the Marathon Man also interacted with the students.
Amar Subba highlighted the technicalities, process, and other subjects related to long distance running. He stated that in order to take up long distance running as a career one should have discipline and dedication. He further said that sports along with academics can make everything easy in life. The Marathon Man also spoke on healthy eating and basic physical exercises to keep fit.
Extending his help to those interested in long distance running, he expressed hope that Sikkim would also produce athletes like Jamaica and Ethiopia in future. Binay Gazmer of Ravangla highlighted the objectives of such kind of interactive programmes while Bhuwani Gurung urged students to take inspiration from Mr Subba, the release mentions.
NSS, Program Officer of the College, Roshan Rai stated that the goal of the programme is to make students aware about long distance running and other sporting activities.
Vice principal of the college, Harjit Goswami, expressed gratitude to the Marathon Man, Amar Subba and the team on behalf of the college. He encouraged the NSS Unit of the college to conduct more programmes in the days to come.
Open Quiz competition on sports and current affairs was also held on the day. The quiz was conducted by assistant professor, Deepak Sharma. NSS Volunteer, Sabita Sharma, of VIth Semester also addressed the programme. The programme was attended by assistant professors, students and the non-teaching staff of the college.
