LOWER SAMDONG, 18 Dec: Lower Samdong Secondary School in East Sikkim celebrated its annual day yesterday, a day made more special with the inauguration of a new school building by the HRDD Minister, NK Pradhan. The new building was constructed by the SMC at an estimated cost of Rs 21 lakh. Gangtok MLA, Dorjee Namgyal Bhutia and MLA Tumin-Lingee, Ugen T Gyatso Bhutia were also present as special guests.
Also on the day, the area MLA, Ugen T Gyatso Bhutia was felicitated by the people of Tumin-Lingee while the chief guest released the school’s annual magazine ‘Green Express’. The chief guest and other guests also visited the exhibition put up by the students.
In his welcome address, Headmaster, ML Koirala, detailed the progress of the school and different activities undertaken here in the past three years. He informed that the school was the proud recipient of the Green School Award and also placed demands relating to the development of infrastructure like construction of separate toilets for boys and girls, fencing of the school premises, construction of a two-room structure under RMSA and recruitment of non-teaching staff at the school.
In his address, the area MLA informed about the development being undertaken in the constituency under the SDF government and appealed to the public not to get misguided by people with vested interests.
The chief guest, in turn, appreciated the coordination of the people of Tumin-Lingee and appealed for support from every individual for the development of the state. He also appreciated the youth of Tumin-Lingee for their selfless contribution towards making the constituency a model constituency in the state.
In response to the demands placed by the people, the Minister assured that all demands will be fulfilled before the beginning of the next session.
The function was also attended by MLA Khamdong-Singtam, AM Prasad Sharma, Member of State Planning Commission, Lhakila Tongden Lepcha, former MLA Norjang Lepcha, Chief Engineer, CP Tongden, former Chief Engineer, LB Chettri, officials from various departments, students, teachers, all the panchayats, and the general public.
