Lee Aal old age home felicitates social-workers and litterateurs


TURUNG, 19 Dec: Eminent litterateurs and social workers from across the districts were felicitated here in a function organized by Lee Aal Old Age Home at Turung in South Sikkim yesterday.The function was attended by litterateur Mohan Pradhan Niraj, as the chief guest, while contractor and social worker Prahlad Gurung, and Member of Women Commission, Lhaki Bhutia were present as special guests.

The awardees were felicitated for their contribution towards the society in various fields. The awardees were Albert Gurung in videography, litterateur Mohan Pradhan Niraj, litterateur Kapilmani Adhikari, social worker Lhaki Bhutia, social worker Chungchung Tongden Lepcha, litterateur Thaman Naubagh, journalist Nandu Dutraj, actress and social worker Ranju Mukhia, social worker Rohini Gurung and the NGO, Dikchu Youth Welfare Association were felicitated from the East District.
Similarly, social worker Topden Lepcha, social worker Mingma Dendup Sherpa and social worker Pratap Gurung from South District were felicitated. Likewise, social worker Khina Maya Sharma, actress and social worker Saraswati Rai and artist and social worker Nar Bahadur Gurung from West District were also felicitated. They were awarded with felicitation letters by the chief guest.
In her welcome address, president Lee Aal, Passangkit Lepcha highlighted the activities of Lee Aal, Old Age Home. Member, Women Commission, Lhaki Bhutia highlighted the different schemes provided by the government for the welfare of senior citizens and appreciated the efforts of Lee Aal in providing the required facilities to the needy.
The chief guest in his address congratulated the awardees and urged them to continue their service to the society. Appreciating the contributions of the awardees he expressed that although about 90% of people in Sikkim are rich there are very few involved in social work.
The function concluded with the vote of thanks by member Lee Aal, Sangeeta Kharel while the function was conducted by Vikash Pradhan. The function was also attended by president, Singtam Newar Kalyan Sangathan, TB Pradhan, Rangpo Nagar Panchayat Assistant, Rohini Gurung representatives of different NGOs and social workers.
Lee Aal in Lepcha means “a new home” and was founded by Passangkit Lepcha along with other members at Turung in South Sikkim. At present the home has 11 destitute senior citizens above the age of sixty who do not have any relatives to look after them. Lee Aal provides food, clothes and shelter including medical treatment to its inmates.
