GANGTOK, 20 Dec: The North District administration, on behalf of the citizens of North Sikkim in general and earthquake affected citizens in particular, has extended its sincere appreciation to all who helped and supported them during the critical phase of recovering from the 18 September earthquake, further extending its regrets in not being able to thank individuals, companies and organizations individually.
A press communiqué issued by the DC [North], TN Kazi, informs that North Sikkim, the most affected district, immediately received adequate materials and moral support from friends and well-wishers from within and outside the state.
“The Central and the State Governments generously extended immediate relief to the maximum effect to all affected persons. Chief Minister, all concerned MLAs, Advisor, H Lachungpa, Chief Secretary, secretaries and senior government officials immediately visited the district to meet the affected public and extended the necessary help”, the release mentions.
The people of North have also extended their gratitude to the Army, ITBP, NDRF, Sikkim Police including IRB and SAP who “worked tirelessly in extending immediate relief and also assisted in the evacuation”.
The release mentions that BRO with the support from Teesta Urja Ltd (TUL) and Army were engaged in the immediate restoration of roads while also acknowledging the support from TUL and Nimagiri Hydro Electric Pvt. Ltd, Army Air force and TUL helicopters which were pressed into service for transporting essential commodities, men and machinery.
“Many of the officials working in North District projected an exemplary account of themselves during the hour of crisis”, the release adds. The help and support received from the SDM and BDO of Chungthang, government officials, Gram, Zilla and Nagar Panchayat members, especially of Chungthang will not go unnoticed. Further, the moral support and necessary materials received from various NGOs will be remembered as a wonderful gesture, the release adds.
