GANGTOK, 20 Dec: MLA Temi-Namphing, BS Panth, inaugurated and handed over the first Pucca House constructed under the Chief Minister’s Rural Housing Mission at Peku in Ben-Namprik GPU on 19 December, informs an official press release. He also handed over the third installment cheques of Rs 90,000 each to 4 other beneficiaries whose houses were in the final stages of construction at the same village.
The MLA, while interacting with the villagers present for the event, called on the beneficiaries to ensure high quality work as this was a rare opportunity presented to them where they were able to convert their kutcha dwelling into a Pucca house by themselves on government funding.
He also congratulated the BDO, the Panchayat and others involved in the project.
The beneficiary, Passang Tshering Sherpa, expressed his happiness and thanked the government for the house and said that he could not wait to move into his new house, the release mentions.
BDO Temi, Satyen K Pradhan, informed that 115 houses were at various stages of completion under Temi Block and another 30 had been recently approved which would be taken up soon after completion of formalities. He also informed that about 20-30 more houses would be ready for handing over to the beneficiary by mid-January.
It was also informed that the government has decided to grant a house with slab roofing at a total estimated cost of Rs. 4,89,900 out of which government grant will be Rs. 4,00,000, land development work under MGNREGA Rs. 50,000 and the remaining amount of Rs. 39,900 has been removed as they account for contractor profit, VAT/Sales Tax etc. which are not applicable in this case, as the construction is done by the beneficiaries themselves with assistance from the Block Rural Housing Construction Committee (BRHCC) constituted under the chairmanship of the Area MLA.
All houses which are in the initial stages of construction or which are just beginning would have earthquake resistant slab roofing as mentioned above.
The MLA also handed over a sanction intimation letter of Rs 1,00,000 for construction of Peku Durga Mandir sanctioned by the Ecclesiastical Department and urged the panchayat and the officials to take up the work immediately, the release adds.
