Vice President Ansari to visit Sikkim

GANGTOK, 25 Aug: The Vice President of India, Hamid Ansari is scheduled to make a two-day visit to Sikkim on 28 and 29 of this month. He will also be participating in an interactive session with students of Sikkim Manipal University at 5th Mile, Tadong on 29 August before leaving for New Delhi in the afternoon.
Governor Shriniwas Patil and Chief Minister Pawan Chamling along with other cabinet ministers, Chief Secretary and DGP will be receiving the Vice President at Libing helipad on 28 August. Minister RB Subba will accompany Mr Ansari from Bagdogra Airport.
The state has also prepared for road transportation of the Vice President in case of bad weather.  All arrangements have been made in coordination with the West Bengal government.
Mr Ansari will be meeting political leaders and other personalities in the afternoon of 28 August and will be staying at the new Raj Bhawan complex.
Hamid Ansari is the first Vice President of India who will be visiting Sikkim for a second time while in office. He visited Sikkim four years ago where he laid the foundation stone for the rail link at Rangpo.
The state government chaired a high level meeting with the heads of the departments  today to discuss preparations for the Vice President’s visit. The Home Secretary has been directed to coordinate with the office of the Vice President as well. All security concerns have been taken into consideration and security has been tightened in all major areas.
