Sports Day at Phalaichadara JHS

GANGTOK, 18 Nov: Government Junior High School, Phalaichadara, East Sikkim organized its annual sports day at its school playground on 16 Nov, informs a press release. 
Apart from the regular sports events, the day also witnessed block level cultural competition organized by the Social Welfare Youth Association, Rakdong-Tumin, East Sikkim and sponsored by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Gangtok.
The competition began with the welcome address delivered by the president, Social Welfare Association, Rakdong-Tumin, RB Chettri.
The competition had 8 participating teams from various schools and NGOs. The first prize was bagged by Samdong Senior Secondary School for its Lepcha Folk Dance, followed by Enlightened Academy, Samdong for its Nepali Folk Dance and thus qualifying to compete in the District Level Cultural Competition.
The headmaster of the host school, RP Adhikari read out the school report and briefed on the school’s activities. The chief guest, Assistant Education Officer (HRDD), BAC-Tintek, DP Chamlagai gave information on various departmental schemes for the upliftment of the school.  The chief guest also gave away the prizes and certificates to the winners.
HM, Lower Samdong Secondary School, KL Koirala spoke on the importance of the Right to Education Act while the special guest, Zilla Panchayat, Saraswati Regmi and Panchayat President, Samdong-Kambol, CK Koirala updated the gathering on the different governmental schemes provided to the schools.
The event which also witnessed the final match of the inter-house football competition had HM-Lower Samdong Sec.School, ML Koirala and HM, Namrang JHS, Surya Kr. Pradhan among the audience.
