Namchi residents donate 33 units of blood

NAMCHI, 24 Nov: A total of 33 units of blood were donated by the teachers and students of Namchi Government College, members of the Voluntary Blood Donors Association of Sikkim (VBDAS) and Red Ribbon Club of South District here at the District Blood Bank today.
The blood donation camp was jointly organized by the NSS and RRC cell of Namchi Government College in collaboration with VBDAS.
Out of a total of 33 volunteers, 20 donations were made by the students and teachers of Namchi Government College serving NSS and RRC cell, 4 members of VBDAS and 9 donations by RRC members of Temi and Bikmat RRC.
It was later informed by the treasurer VBDAS, Cheyong Bhutia, that South District had marked 64% voluntarily blood donation in 2010-11 and said that "When it comes to blood donation, nobody bothers about the caste, creed or religion of the donors and this ties us in brotherhood through saving the life of others”.
He further informed that in 2005-6 Namchi recorded only 8% of voluntary blood donation but after the association took the initiative in coordination with Senior Blood Bank Officer, Dr. Barun Subba and his staff it has now reached 64%. Now the youth, NGOs and Clubs are coming forward for blood donation.
He also thanked the Senior Blood Bank Officer, Dr. Subba and his staff for bringing a change in the infrastructure and management of the District Blood Bank, Namchi.
