‘Red Fest’ for AIDS awareness begins at TNA

GANGTOK, 18 Nov: The first phase of the recently launched ‘Red Fest’, under the multimedia campaign 2011-2012 of the Sikkim State AIDS Control Society, commenced today from Tashi Namgyal Academy here.
The campaign is pegged as a ‘Positive Intervention’ to address the challenge of HIV/AIDS. The main objective of the intervention is to involve school students and educate them on HIV and AIDS through various activities, games and IQ sessions, informs a press release.
During the program, the students were divided into 8 teams - Red Hope, Red Love, Red Generosity, Red Care, Red Gentleness, Red Compassion, Red Encouragement and Red Help – and competed in 4 events: Positive Quiz, Positive Minute, Fly High and Positive Impression. The intervention, involving students is the first of its kind initiated by SSACS, the release informs.
One of the students expressed that the intervention was refreshing and educative too. “We really look forward for such programs amongst students in near future. It was really interesting and we were relaxed and enjoyed it thoroughly. The Quiz was very informative for us”, she added, the release mentions.
Finally the students also suggested some pointers for proper and channelized awareness on HIV and AIDS amongst school students. They suggested frequent interventions at schools, production of a documentary film, a website etc, the release adds. The participating students were also handed over certificates as tokens of appreciation.
The 2nd school to be “intervened” is Sang Senior Secondary School, Martam, Rumtek on 19 November.
