GANGTOK, 12 July: The staff at Sikkim Government College, Tadong, here has welcomed the recent decision of the State Government to establish a degree college in Gyalshing.
“The establishment of this college will facilitate the students from West District especially those economically backward and weaker sections of the society to pursue higher education,” conveys a press release issued by the president, SGCTA, Dr. S Dutta.
The release records appreciation of the “continuous endeavor” of the Chief Minister towards setting up new colleges and “thus raising the standard of education in the state”.
“Sikkim is growing State and we at Sikkim Government College, Tadong are trying to build the knowledge capital of the state to the best of our abilities. We feel that more than 200 students who did not get admission in our college will fall out of the conventional education system if this new college is not established because pursuance of education in private colleges is very expensive. With the growing number of aspirants for higher education in the state we would further request the State Government to open more colleges in Sikkim, including a women’s College in Gangtok,” adds the release.
