NSUI-Sikkim takes SU issue to high-command, plans to meet UGC next

GANGTOK, 11 July: A delegation of National Students’ Union of India [NSUI] members from Sikkim is in New Delhi calling on the union’s leaders and other central leaders, informs a press release issued by the Sikkim-unit’s president Binod Chettri, who is leading the delegation. “The main purpose of visit was regarding Sikkim University issue and also discussed issues regarding unemployment growth in the state, massive corruption,” the release states.

The delegation, the release goes on to add, has received assurances from the NSUI leaders that the matter of land allocation to Sikkim University will be taken seriously. The delegation also plans to raise the affiliation of Kyongsa Degree College to a private university in Sikkim in contravention of existing rules, the release adds.
While announcing plans to launch a “mass demonstration” in Sikkim if the SU is not resolved, the Sikkim unit, the release details, has “also shown dis satisfaction regarding insult of VC Mahendra P Lama by the SDF leaders in the state which is has created an enviroment of dis satisfaction and may leads to dark future of Students of Sikkim with the central leaders.”
The release goes on to add that the Sikkim delegation may be meeting Congress MP Rahul Gandhi later this week and will also be visiting the University Grants Commission office on Tuesday to discuss the Sikkim University issue. The release also shares NSUI plans to file an RTI application to enquire into the land allocation process.
