GANGTOK, 12 Jan: The Union Ministry of Department of Personnel has extended the service of Chief Secretary Rinchen Ongmu, a 1979 batch IAS officer, by three months after she retires on 31 January 2015 upon attaining age of superannuation. As things stand, Ms. Ongmu will be in office as the CS at least till end-April, completing a tenure of two years in highest administrative post in the State. She had taken charge as Chief Secretary to the Government of Sikkim on 01 March 2013. Apart from being the first lady Chief Secretary of Sikkim, Ms. Ongmu is also the first Sikkimese to clear the UPSC exams and join the Indian Administrative Service. Ms. Ongmu’s service extension is on the request of the State Government.
