GANGTOK, 15 Jan: Black Cat Division at Gangtok joined the rest of the country in celebrating the 67th Army Day on 15 January. The day is celebrated to pay homage to brave Indian soldiers, who sacrificed their lives for protecting the country.
On the occasion, General Officer Commanding Black Cat Division, Major General YVK Mohan, laid a wreath at Sherathang War Memorial on behalf of all ranks of the Division, informs a press release.
Army Day is celebrated to commemorate the “Taking Over the Reins” of the Indian Army for the first time by an Indian General in Independent India. It was on this day, when General (Later Field Marshal) KM Cariappa became the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army.
The GOC also visited the forward areas and interacted with the soldiers. He complimented them for their selfless service to the nation, being deployed throughout the year in the most inhospitable terrain, weather and guarding the borders, the release adds.
