NHPC signs MoU with State Govt to set up ITI in North Sikkim


GANGTOK, 08 Jan: NHPC Limited today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State’s Energy and Power Department, for establishing an ITI at Chandey, Mangan, North Sikkim, informs a press release. The State Government was represented by Principal Chief Engineer–cum-Secretary, Energy and Power Department, AK Giri whereas NHPC was represented by Executive Director, Siliguri, Dhiman Parija.

As per the MoU, NHPC will bear the cost of expenditure on building infrastructure for the ITI upto Rs 5 crore. The executing agency for development of the Project will be the State Energy and Power Department.
The Government of Sikkim will provide land to take care of immediate and future needs of the Institution and will accord necessary sanctions/affiliations/permission for the construction of the ITI, the release mentions.
The trades to be included in the ITI are Fitter, Machinist, Electrician and Welder. Further, any other trade may be included as per the requirement of State government.
10% of the seats in all the disciplines of this ITI will be reserved/filled by the wards of employees of NHPC including its joint venture/subsidiaries.
As part of its Corporate Social Resposibility and Community Development, the estabilishing of ITI at Chandey, Mangan, North Sikkim is a major step in sharing the benefit of development with the people of the State of Sikkim, the release adds.
