CHAKUNG (West Sikkim), 06 Jan: As announced earlier by dissident MLA, PS Tamang and his supporters, a prayer ceremony for the victims of the 18 Sept 2011 Earthquake according to Christian rituals was organized here at Chakung, also the native village of Mr. Tamang, today.
Mr. Tamang, who had stayed away from the launch of the prayers [at Rolu on 21 December], took part in today’s function and offered prayers. Organized by the Sarwadharma Puja Organizing committee, the prayer ceremony was held at Tanki Dara Park and was attended by close aides of Mr. Tamang. Besides Christian hymns and prayers, the main attraction of the programme was the release of new musical album, ‘Awahaan’, produced jointly by Tashi Bhutia, Pawan Gurung, Kamal Giri, Krishna Gurung, Jacob Khaling, Manoj Lama and Suresh Tamang.
Mr Tamang released the album, which, according to the producers, seeks to create awareness on different issues. It may be mentioned here that this time, the supporters of PS Tamang decided to observe a world peace prayer instead of the annual picnic programme at Rolu.
Today’s function was the second phase of the prayers [after the first at Rolu]. A similar programme according to Buddhist rituals will be organised next, it is informed.
