GANGTOK, 09 Jan: The Akhil Kirat Rai Sangh, Sikkim held a meeting-cum-New Year celebration at Seven Hills, Phali Dara, Namchi on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, KN Rai expressed “that for the development of a human being, one has to have inner growth besides mental and physical well being, only then can it be said to be true development”, informs an AKRS release.
He informed that a legal cell has been formed by AKRS, Sikkim with Jagat Rai as the legal officer. This cell will be involved in monitoring literature and documentaries produced on the Rai culture that lack authenticity or permission of the AKRS, Sikkim, in order to prevent wrong information of the Rai culture from being imparted.
Speaking on the incomplete Mangkhim at Chemchey he added that it should be completed as soon as possible along with the study center which is also in the pipeline. He further added that we should not depend on the Chief Minister for funds for this purpose as being the leader of the State he is responsible for other communities as well, the release mentions.
He also urged the association to cross check the Rai language text book and to discuss the contents so as to make it authentic. Research on Rai culture, tradition, dress, language etc should be done at the national and international level for which the establishment of a research center is very important, he added.
Laying emphasis on membership drives to include maximum number of community members in the Association, a resolution to start such a drive from the Block level was also passed during the meeting.
Mr Rai also proposed conducting a lottery during the upcoming Sakewa celebration at Namchi to collect funds for the association.
Similarly, Chairman Tea Board, Gagan Rai also urged the people of the community to work for the welfare of the community and added that the Mangkhim which is in its final phase of completion at Chemchey, should become one of the best.
While, General Secretary, AKRS South, Sailesh Rai informed that a committee Kon Resimik Rumu has been formed and the Committee performs prayers and songs in praise of Paruhang and Sumnima in the Rai language every week at different households, the release mentions.
During the programme, a book titled ‘Sapokha’ written by BB Rokdung Rai was also released by the chief guest. The Secretary General Central Committee, Bimal Chandra Rai informed that from now onwards any book written in the Rai script and language will be first scrutinized by the AKRS Central Committee and only after it is passed by the Committee will permission for it publication granted, the release further mentions. The programme ended with a feast.
During the programme songs of Rai like Sumnima Paruhang, Nawlakha Kirati, Bhumiputra were also presented while it was also attended by MLA Namchi Singhithang, Binod Rai, Secretary PHE, TB Rajalim, Ex MLA, IB Rai and more than five hundred members from different districts.
