GYALTSEN ALSO SUPERVISES RECOVERY EFFORTS IN RANI KHOLA AT 32 MILE
GANGTOK, 20 Sept: Speaker, KT Gyaltsen, visited victims and inspected affected houses at Nandok near Ranipool today, a village which has lost 19 houses and a secondary school campus when the Sunday earthquake broke the water conductor [700 feet above the village] carrying water to the Lower Lagyap HEP and sent down a disastrous flood of water into the village. Mr. Gyaltsen is also the MLA of the area and was away in New Delhi till Monday evening.
Mr Gyaltsen interacted with the affected people and assured to provide all possible help and assistance to facilitate the rebuilding process at the earliest. He was also accompanied by Power Department officials.
He advised the affected families not to panic and reassured them all issues will be sorted out. He further directed Power Department officials to take up the damage caused by their pipeline seriously so that the people felt safer.

Speaker admitted that it was disturbing to hear of the harrowing time people of his constituency suffered in the wake of the Sunday temblor.
Speaking to media persons, the Ward Panchayat of Nandok, Umakant Sharma, reiterated that it was the Power Department’s negligence in delaying repairs of the pipeline above their village which caused such extensive damage.
The affected people appealed for quick and immediate repairs of their damaged homes. The irony for this village washed away by overflowing waters is that it is currently suffering a water scarcity – its supply lines washed away on Sunday night.
Earlier, the Speaker also inspected the rescue operations underway in the Ranikhola at 32 Mile on NH 31A where efforts are being made to find the bodies of a family washed away by a landslide there when their vehicle was caught in a landslip triggered by the earthquake. Only one lady from the six people on board the vehicle survived the accident. She has lost her husband, child and mother and father in law to the accident. The dead body of the child was recovered today.
