GANGTOK: Tibetans-in-exile residing in Sikkim cast their votes to elect the Kalon Tripa [Prime Minister] and members of the 15th Tibetan Parliament on 20 March, Sunday.
Voting took place in Ravangla and at the Cho-Ka-Sum, Namnang here in Gangtok.
While speaking to NOW! Settlement Officer, Gangtok, Karma Damdul, informed that out of the 1,800 registered voters in Sikkim’s East and North districts, 1,170 cast their votes this year. This is almost the same as the turn-out for the preliminary voting held in October last year. Voting began from 8 in the morning and continued till 5 in the evening.
On the same day, Ravangla saw a total turn-out of 294 out of the 647 registered voters there.
The compiled documents will be sent to the head office in Dharamsala, following which, the head office will compile the final declaration. The final result is scheduled to be announced on 27 April.
Polling also took place in North America, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Austria, Poland, Russia, Japan, Taiwan and Australia, it is informed.
The voter turnout in the preliminary polling conducted on 03 October 2010 was 60.67 percent.
