Quick response makes short work of potentially disastrous bush-fire

GANGTOK: Quick response by Gangtok Fire Station doused a bush-fire in time before it could spread to a nearby army Field Petroleum Depot here at Samdur Tuesday afternoon.
Upon receiving information about the fire at around 1:30 PM, an eight-member crew of Gangtok Fire Station, led by the Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Prakash Rai, rushed to the spot with one AFT fire tender and a larger fire tender and found local residents already trying to control the fire from spreading.

The fire team brought the fire fully under control in around half an hour.
The Deputy CFO informs that the area was covered with dry bush which caught fire and spread fast.
He further informed that although the fire was not very big, it could have posed a threat to an army field petroleum depot and houses nearby.
He also advised the army personnel present at the spot, to be remain alert and conduct regular patrolling to avoid such incidents, especially during these dry spells.
