GANGTOK, 23 March: A section claiming to be voters from Burtuk constituency, today countered the Sikkim Democratic Front’s call for the resignation of PS Tamang from his position as the MLA of Burtuk.
A press release signed by 54 persons, questions the locus-standii of SDF spokespersons, Bhim Dahal and PD Rai, in making such suggestions and wonders how the mandate of Burtuk people can be overlooked so easily. [click here for related news]
The release adds that the mandate was given by the people of Burtuk and not by the SDF, and alleges that the party had infact conspired to make Mr Tamang lose.
The release alleges that SDF party workers had even circulated scandalous pamphlets against Mr Tamang in the constituency before the elections to discredit him and that even later, Mr. Tamang’s recommendations for the Burtuk people were ignored in government offices.
It also alleges that the appointment of DT Lepcha as Burtuk in-charge despite the fact that the constituency had an elected MLA in Mr Tamang was itself undemocratic, unconstitutional and autocratic.
It has also questioned why, after winning three consecutive elections from his Chakung constituency, was Mr. Tamang sent to contest from Burtuk.
The release closes with the conviction that Mr. Tamang will not dishonour the people’s mandate by resigning, and instead dares the SDF to expel him from the party instead.
