A BAS press release informs that in view of the latest government notification barring government employees from participating in associations, the present BAS executive body led by the president, Chewang Zangpo was dissolved as many of the office bearers were government employees.
The BAS press release issued by its general secretary, S Das further informs that an ad-hoc committee was formed under the presidentship of DB Thapa, OT Lepcha, C Lhamu, Sukanta Das, Rajendra Chettri, Anand Bisht, Subash Tamang, Karmala Sherpa and KB Cashmore.
An election committee comprising of 5 members was also formed to conduct elections of the executive body as per the constitution of the BAS. The election will be held after the 26th Sikkim State Badminton Championship expected to be held in the latter half of August this year. The state championship is also scheduled to be held in Namchi this time as the Paljor Stadium indoor gymnasium is undergoing major renovations. The release has requested all interested participants, schools and sporting associations to remain in touch around that time.
“Players to represent Sikkim in the upcoming North-East Zonal Inter-State Badminton Championships and subsequent National Championships will be selected during the 26th Sikkim State Badminton Championships,” the release adds.
During the meeting, the BAS members congratulated Sukanta Das and Karmala Sherpa for successfully qualified as National Umpires Grade-II.
