South plants through its 10 Minutes to Earth

Namchi, 25 June [IPR]: The “10 Minutes to Earth” initiative was observed here in South Sikkim at the District Zilla Panchyat Bhawan today. The program, organized by the Forest Department was attended by DC (South) Prabhakar Verma, South Zilla Upadhakshya DM Baraily, ADM (South) Kapil Meena, DFO (T) MK Rai, ACF (T) Deepshika Sharma, ADC (Dev), Namchi Benu Gurung, DPO Yangchen Tamang along with the staff and officials of Forest, Irrigation and RM&D Departments and South District Zilla Panchyats. The plantation drive was conducted in the RM&DD compound here.
The DC, sharing the importance of the program, asked the participants to ensure thorough follow up every three months to provide proper care and nurture of all the trees and flowers planted by them in their respective areas.
He further underlined the significance of ‘Paryavaran Mahotsav’ and its three imperative components - Cleanliness Drive, Awareness Campaign and Plantation Drive - which should foster collective responsibility from all the participants.
In addition, the DFO briefed the officials present on the steps to be followed by them while carrying out avenue plantation in their respective departments. With regard to this he asked the officials to execute systematic follow up plan so as to nurture the plants and trees planted by them during the years to come.

Similarly, government departments like IPR, HRDD, Irrigation, Health and Namchi Municipal Council with Namchi Gram Vikas Kendra as well as school students took park in the ‘Ten Minutes to Earth’ program today. Flowering & Medicinal plants, Ornamental tree/ plant saplings and local tree saplings like pine, fir were planted during the program.
