Speaking to NOW!, the DFO informed that this squad will be available 24x7 to carry out rescue works in times of emergencies.

The cleanliness drive, according to him, will be done during spare time with the intention to make residents aware about their responsibilities towards the environment.
“Our plan is to clean all the jhoras falling under Forest Colony, Vajra upto Burtuk, for which we seek people’s participation,” Mr. Bhutia said, adding that Range Officer, Gangtok, LB Bhattarai will inform the residents about date, time and venue about the schedule in advance.
Similarly, Dr. Gopal Pradhan, Principal Scientist, State Pollution Control Board, said, “In reality, we are the regulatory authority but we are sponsoring the initiative in order to make people about their individual duty to keep the environment clean and green.”
Supporting his statement, the DFO said, “During the cleanliness drive, if we find anyone dumping garbage in jhoras, we will levy fines on the spot as per the Environmental Protection Act.”
Further, the rescue squad, stationed at Transit Hostel of the Department at Gangtok Range will also be responsible to remove precariously perched trees, to clear the debris of trees felled by landslides and to carry out all recue works during the monsoons.
