NASBO president resigns, joins SKM

GANGTOK, 30 Jan: National Sikkimese Bhutia Organization [NASBO] president, Sonam Lama resigned from the organization and joined Sikkim Krantikari Morcha on Wednesday.
An SKM release informs that Mr. Lama met the SKM leader PS Tamang [Golay] here at the party head office at Tadong along with a group of other monks submitting a letter of support to join the party.
In his joining letter addressed to the SKM party president he has said that the present government has failed to protect the interests of Sikkim and monks in the state whose rights have been suppressed by the state government in the name of democracy.
The monks further said that the distinct identity of Sikkimese people and their culture and traditions have been lost during the 20 years of SDF rule in the state, the release informs.
Meanwhile, NASBO held an emergency meeting today in view of the resignation letter submitted by its president. A NASBO press release informs that the Central Committee after deep deliberation, accepted the resignation and extended all support and cooperation to Mr. Lama in all his future endeavors. The meeting also thanked him for his contributions to the organization and Sikkim.
The meeting further elected coordinator Pintso Bhutia of Pakyong, as the new president. The members offered khadas, both to the outgoing and new president during the meeting, the release adds.
