GANGTOK, 16 Jan: Nominees of five beneficiaries of Aganwadi Karyakarti Bima Yozana [AKBY] received a cheque of Rs 30,000 each from the Life Insurance Corporation [LIC] on the insurance claims on the death of their wards here at the Welfare Division of the Social Welfare Department today.
This is a central government scheme and covers the Aganwadi workers and helpers. Under this scheme, the LIC contributes Rs 100 while Rs 80 is contributed by the client per annum. This scheme has to be renewed every year.
Under this scheme, the LIC provides insurance claim of Rs 30,000 on the natural death of workers in service and Rs 75,000 to the nominee on death due to accident and Rs 75,000 on permanent disability due to accident and Rs 30,500 on partial disability to the client.
The AKBY scheme was launched in the state in 1994 and at present 1072 Aganwadi workers and 1068 Aganwadi helpers are enrolled with the scheme in the state.
Under the same scheme, a scholarship, Siksha Sahayogya Yozana, has also been provided to two children of Aganwadi workers and helpers from class IX to XII, it is informed.
The cheques were provided by the hands of Joint Director [ICDS], KK Subba, Branch Manager LICI [Jalpaiguri], J Banerjee and LICI Manager [Customer Care] from Siliguri, N Majumdar.
On the occasion, these officials also shared about various LICI schemes beneficial for the Aganwadi workers.
