Chamling calls on PM to discuss pending issues

PM REITERATES COMMITMENT OF Rs 1,000 Cr RELIEF PACKAGE, SUGGESTS STUDY ON SOIL AND GEO-TECHNICAL ASPECTS OF THE REGION
GANGTOK, 16 Jan [IPR]: Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, who is currently in New Delhi pursuing pressing concerns of the State Government with Central Ministers and agencies, called on the Prime Minister at 10.30 AM Monday morning.
The relief and rehabilitation works pertaining to the 18 September Earthquake was discussed thoroughly and on the CM’s request Dr. Manmohan Singh assured immediate release of funds from the National Disaster Relief Fund. While Rs. 227.17 crore has been sanctioned through the NDRF for earthquake relief in Sikkim, the same has not yet been released.
Moreover, the PM also reiterated his commitment of the Rs 1,000 crore package announced for the State and stated that these funds will also be expeditiously released to the State Government.
The PM suggested that a study on the soil and geo-technical aspects of the region be initiated immediately to which the CM agreed to approach the Natural Disaster Management Authority. The CM also requested for setting up of a Natural Disaster Institute in the State to which the PM agreed and advised the State Government to approach the Natural Disaster Management Authority for full support.
The CM apprised the PM in regard to the Income Tax issue of “left-out persons”. The PM stated that the issue would be considered sympathetically and an amicable solution found.
The PM was also apprised on the condition of the NH 31A and the tardy progress of work undertaken by the BRO. The PM was of the opinion that in order to restore the roads efficiently all possible alternate courses of implementation should be evaluated and examined so as to ensure the roads improve.
 At the end of the meeting the CM complimented the PM for not only being a great leader to the country but for also being a great human being and a visionary statesman. Reciprocating the compliment the PM appreciated the leadership shown by Mr Chamling in guiding his State to peace and prosperity.
Lastly the CM on behalf of the Sikkimese people extended an invitation to the PM to visit the State. The PM expressed his willingness and keenness to visit the State in the near future.
