GANGTOK, 08 Aug: The Badminton Association of Sikkim has announced plans to hold the 23rd Sikkim State Badminton Championship from 07 to 11 September. This was finalised at an executive body meeting held here recently.
“With India doing well in the International Circuit and ever-growing its popularity day by day, the association wishes to put more effort and induce more enthusiasm in the younger generation to excel. With added participation from the parents, not only can the state generate players of high calibre but also have healthier society,” a BAS press statement highlights.
The Association will also be selecting players for the upcoming North East Zonal [to be held in Agartala (Tripura) from 23 to 25 September] based on performances at the State tournament, the release informs. The team for the Sub Junior National Badminton Championship scheduled for October will also be selected at the upcoming tournament.
Sport associations at the districts have been directed to select players by rankings and submit the list to BAS. A qualifying round is scheduled for under 13 and 16 (Boys & Girls) on 05 & 06 September in Gangtok, it is further informed.
The last date to sign for the tournament has been fixed for 31 August with the forms available at Bharat Shoes, Citi News and Hari Store, all in Gangtok.
