Dzongri Sporting Club resolves to revive lost glory

GANGTOK, 25 July: A meeting of the Dzongri Sporting Club, one of the premier football clubs of Sikkim, was held here yesterday and attended by most of its founding members. The meeting was held following overwhelming demand from fans and well-wishers of the club to revive the lost glory of the club and popularity of the game by leveraging the priority given to sports by the present Government, a press release from the club informs.
The decision was also influenced by the club’s concern towards diverting the younger generation away from negative influences, the release adds.

The meeting unanimously formed an ad-hoc executive body to coordinate its activities till an elected Executive Committee is constituted. The meeting also resolved to conduct another meeting of the Club on 01 August to expand its activities and requested all founding members to attend the same, the release informs.
It has also been decided that the club would henceforth also promote other sports like volleyball, table-tennis, badminton, athletics etc as well as social activities.
It may be mentioned here that the Dzongri Sporting Club has featured some of the best Sikkimese footballers like Karma Loday Bhutia (international) and nationals like Chewang T Shangdarpa and others in the past. The club was founded in 1980 and lifted several national and other prestigious tourneys in India, Bhutan and Nepal and neighboring regions, the release adds.
The meeting unanimously expressed its gratitude towards Mr. Chewang and his colleagues for persistently sustaining the existence of the club till date, the release further mentions.
