MANGAN, 12 JUNE: Primary and monastic teachers from different schools who will be undergoing training on study leave for a period of two years from 01 July 2011 to 30 June 2013 for diploma in Elementary Education at DIET, Gangtok for the academic session 2011-13 have appealed to the Department that they be paid their full salary during this period. A total of 29 teachers from different schools of North District have been selected for the training.
These teachers who have been directed by the department to undergo the above training have been informed through a circular that they are entitled to half their salary during the study leave.
The teachers here informed that earlier they have been paid full salary along with two increments after the training.
Most of the teachers said that they have taken loans against their salaries and have EMIs to service, something which half-pay will not be able to cover.
The teachers here informed that they themselves have to manage the accommodation and other logistics during their training period in Gangtok and also have to bear domestic expenses for dependent family members.
“We are happy that we have been selected for the training but the department should also understand our problems since we have to look after our families as well and it is our humble request to the Department that this issue be addressed,” said one of the teachers from North while speaking to NOW! today.
