Day 15 of cm’s Sikkim bhraman

“Developmental intervention to secure the future, no please individuals”
GYALSHING, 12 June: Chief Minister Pawan Chamling urged the people to develop a stronger sense of belonging towards Sikkim in delivering their responsibilities and duties towards the state.
He was addressing the people on the 15th day of his village-to-village tour covering parts of rural Sikkim, He started his day with an interaction session with people from different wards of Pecherek-Martam GPU at the Gram Prashasan Kendra there.
The CM stressed that the people should evaluate the performance of the State Government in the past 18 years under his charge, an evaluation, which, he said, would convince them of the government’s commitment to Sikkim and its under-privileged.

This, he added, will also convince them that even the pending works will be delivered in time.
He shared today that the government was not keen on sanctioning works “just to keep the people happy” but wants to commission “sustainable works which will secure the future of the coming generations”.
On the prevailing politics, the CM called for more “transparent, positive and constructive” politics with leaders who did not mislead and confuse the people through conspiracies and instead engaged in ideological debates and raised the genuine concerns of the people.
Freedom of expression should not be compromised with anonymous leaflets and videos, he said.
At his next halt in Bermiok Bazaar, the CM made the dais wait and went and sat among the people instead, interacting directly with them.
Responding to the people’s demand for a BAC at Martam, he announced that this will be delivered immediately and said that upon the completion of his 40-day Sikkim tour, he will return to the area in July and inaugurate the BAC, bringing along a BDO to man the centre as well.
It may be mentioned here that the BAC has already been constructed at Srijunga Road, Martam, and is awaiting inauguration.
The Chief Minister also sanctioned the demand for beautification of Bermoik Bazar.
On roads and tourism-related demands of the area, he assured to take up all the demands on need-based priority.
The CM also reminded the MLAs and officials accompanying him to immediately start work to achieve the government target to make Sikkim a kutch-house free State by 2013. Time, he stressed, should not be wasted on pushing files from one office to the other.
On the Limboo-Tamang seats in the Assembly, he mentioned that the State Government had won ST recognition for the two communities and effected all reservations within its jurisdiction to grant. Assembly seat reservation, he explained, was for the Centre to decide and was being pursued by the government at that level. People, he said, should understand these ground realities and not get misled by what “Sikkim’s detractors” might claim.
Speaking to the students of Kaluk Senior Secondary School in his next halt, the CM mentioned that Sikkim needs “disciplined and responsible” citizens and stressed that only students can bring this to the State in the future.
He encouraged the students to work hard and lead disciplined lives so that they grow up confident and responsible. The government, he assured, will extend them all support to facilitate a complete education for them.
Responding to the school’s demands, the CM sanctioned the demand for a multi-purpose building and starting of a Science stream in the school. He also announced that the school auditorium will be named “Late Ran Bahadur Gurung Auditorium” in the memory of the land donor.
He also shared that while the government was committed to start science and commerce streams in every school to create the human resource required in the State now, the lack of local PGTs for these subjects was hampering this effort.
Continuing his hectic schedule, the CM met people of Meyoung, Chingthang, Yangsum, Berfok and its adjoining villages at PR Lama Secondary School at Yangsum.
Here, he urged the people to take advantages of all opportunities created by the government for the people to become self-reliant and assured all additional support required to deliver this aspiration.
Finally, the CM interacted with the people of Sangadorjee GPU at the Rinchenpong community centre and assured to work on all the demands placed on priority basis for the convenience of the people.
He also strictly directed that all sanctioned works in the area which were still pending be started immediately and completed soon.
While addressing the water scarcity problem of the area, he declared that the government will take up revival of dried up lakes as a policy decision and include it in the programme of the government.
