GANGTOK, 10 June: The valedictory function of the State-level workshop for folk artists, “Standardizing Script, folk programmes and developing state/ district resources” was held here at Janta Bhawan this morning. The workshop had started on 07 June and received a massive participation with only nine NGOs qualifying for the final round of performances which was held here today.
Former Sikkim State AIDS Control Society [SSACS] Director, Dr. V Singhi, was present as the chief guest for the function which was also attended by Consultant, IEC, Sanchali Roy, from NACO, Delhi.
The function was a mix of cultural extravaganzas, theatre performances and songs by participants from all over the state.
The finalists today were Kalakunj Natya Sadan, Sakyong [West Sikkim]; Pacific Club, Menglee [South Sikkim]; Dasharthik Sangh, Gelling [West Sikkim]; Mutanchi Lhom Aal Shejum, Dzongu; Akhil Kirat Rai Sangh, Namchi [South Sikkim]; Bhurung Puritan Sanskritik Avam Dharohar Sangrakshan Sangh, Central Pendam [East Sikkim]; VHAS; Ujwal Kala Kendra, Deorali, East Sikkim.
The presentations today were based on various themes on the spread and awareness on HIV/AIDS like ICTC/PPTC/women issues and migrant population and youth vulnerability.
It may also be mentioned here that the Sikkim contingent had bagged the third prize in IEC display at the recently concluded national level workshop in New Delhi from 5 to 8 April earlier this year and also won the third prize in the folk dance category. The winners of the folk presentation today will represent the state in the next national level workshop.
