GANGTOK: The Rotary Club of Gangtok, in association with the Sikkim State Council of Science & Technology, organized a daylong visit to the Sikkim Science Centre at Marchak for class IX and X students of the Bojogari Secondary School on Thursday on the occasion of National Science Day.
The idea behind organizing such a programme was to encourage students to take up science in their higher studies and also to explain to them the various concepts of science through the over-100 exhibits at the science centre, a press release informs.
Suman Thapa , Assistant Scientific Officer at the Centre, explained the various exhibits while Ivan Dorjee Lepcha , PGT of Physics at PNG School gave a well received demonstration of science experiments using simple tools to explain the various principles of science.
70 students from the school took the excursion, only two of them had visited the Centre before. The Rotary Club of Gangtok has also assured that it will bring more students from other schools to the Science Centre for similar visits.
The day began with an introduction to the programme by Secretary, Department of Science, Technology and Climate Change, ML Arawatia, Rotarians OP Singhi, who is an ex-Secretary Science & Technology and Dr Yogesh Verma, Head Mistress of Bojoghari Secondary School Chewang Doma , president of Rotary Club of Gangtok IB Goel, and Dr Dorjee Bhutia, Additional Director.
